Satcom

Link quality analytics

Satellite communication system know how is combined with data analytics to retrieve various outputs for design and operation of services via satellites. Space Analyses brings the combination of empiric data gathering to conclusions for decision making.

Various products from empiric data are available for Satcom Link analytics

  • Link Efficiency depended on location and frequency
  • Weather and tropospheric influences on location and frequency
  • Installation Quality of individual earth stations (de-pointing analytics)
  • Ground HW analytics / verification in operation
  • VSAT modem/ground station vendor comparisons
  • Footprint and satellite antenna pattern verification
  • Ground station localisations
  • Link Budget verifications

Interference

In the topic interference as part of the space situational awareness and its influence to the system behaviour, the system operation and its monitoring Space Analyses combines the system understanding and data analytics with data management to create deep insights with the help of data management, big data tools and artificial intelligence. Space Analyses relies here on already recorded data from carrier monitoring systems and applies own algorithm and processes to create following results as complementing features to satellite carrier monitoring results:

  • Long term analytics of carrier behaviours
  • System analytics (Payload, Spacecraft, Ground Infrastructure)
  • Spatial analytics
  • Trend analytics
  • ‚Soft Threshold‘ introduction
  • Preparation for AI plug-in’s (e.g.)
  • Anomaly detection

With the changing space economy and the resulting operation of large constellations from operators such as SpaceX and OneWeb RF-conjunctions with GSO satellites and their ground stations are expected.

There are transmissions between ground stations as well as geosynchronous satellites and low earth orbit satellites in both directions – uplink and downlink in the same frequency area – EUTELSAT, SES, INTELSAT, HISPASAT, other GSO operators in Ku-Band as well as STARLINK and ONEWEB at least for LEO operators.

As the two already existing LEO networks ONEWEB and STARLINK are only the first of potentially many more to be launched and both of them are by far not completed, the danger of interference with core business model of GSO operators will grow by time. It is necessary for the GSO satellite operators to be ready and escalate possible interferences as soon as it hits, knowing exactly where it is coming from and what it is. Only then, international escalation would be possible. Without this capability (proof of interference, its source and the responsible organisation) there are no chances to perform the aforementioned processes in ITU.

To enable a systematic monitoring of possible GSO ↔ LEO Space Analyses develop a unique application to measure this specific interference with a combination of its know-how in orbit data from space objects and the know how of data analysis embedded in the satellite communication system know-how .

Satcom Design

The design of the Satcom system is based on know-how gathered since 2003 from projects of VSAT system design, VSAT and commercial Satcom systems operations including monitoring of these systems.

Several projects have been implemented in Austria, UK and Greenland.
